Defending what?

It is comical how the right-wing neo-con-men among us feel righteous indignation when a Muslim country in which we sacrificed American lives, returns the favor by attempting to execute a man who had converted from Islam to Christianity. Is this what we fought for? Do you really believe we will bring democracy and peace to country like this? Afghanistan and Iraq are both examples of mistakes the bush administration has made in their polyanna world view. If they had heeded the lessons of the past going back to 1918 in the Arab world, they would have known there was no way to achieve the goal of democratization in the Arab world. Their culture is not condusive to it. Any first year history student could tell you that. Bush has used so many lies in justifying the war that he is left only with the fruitless excuse, "to bring freedom and democracy to the country." Once again I believe our leadship has proven that only a ruthless dictator like Saddam could maintain any order in a country like Iraq. We accepted that reality and realized we had Saddam in a little box where he couldn't harm other countries up until bush insisted on showing his daddy up. This administration is the definition of pathetic and those who have defended them deserve no pity. You get what you deserve.
